1- Crush your barbs for a sustainable and sportive fishing

The barb is the part of the hook that most damages the fish when it is pricked. It is indeed the barb that tears the skin of the fish when the hook is removed, which often causes wounds that will harbor all sorts of diseases later... The tip of the hook is largely sufficient if the fisherman keeps the tension with the fish. Therefore, buy hooks without barbs or crush them systematically.

2- Use simple hooks

This rule is just as important as the previous one for sustainable and sporty fishing with Field&Fish. When the fish is hooked, it struggles, and the hooks that are not hooked wander around and damage the fish, especially on its face... So make a habit of using single hooks or changing your trebles for singles. This will avoid disfiguring your catch...

3- Use a landing net with a rubber net

For sustainable but sporty fishing, use a landing net with a rubber net, it will protect the mucus of the fish. Mucus is the protective, slimy substance that covers the body of fish. This slimy substance acts as a protective barrier against parasites, bacteria and certain heavy metals (water pollution). It is therefore essential not to remove it...

4- Wet your hands before catching the fish

Also to protect the mucus from the fish. If not, you will notice that your hands will be "slimy", which means that you have stolen the armor of your valuable catch, which may then catch all sorts of diseases...

5- The fight must be neither too short nor too long during sport fishing

Indeed, a fish that is too "green" because it is pulled out in force is difficult to handle under good conditions and you risk injuring the fish when it tries to struggle. Conversely, a fight that lasts too long compromises the chances of survival in case of release. Especially if the release is not done properly.

6- Release the fish correctly

To do this, hold the fish vertically, stir it slowly back and forth to oxygenate it. In general, and when the gesture is well done, the fish leaves on its own as soon as it is ready. If it does not leave on its own, it is still too exhausted. Let him still a little time ...

7- Get your yarn back.

In addition to the organic pollution that nylon creates, the strands you voluntarily leave in nature become death traps for all the wildlife that lives there, which goes against the sustainable sport fishing that Field and Fish has been advocating for years. Whenever possible, retrieve your line. A Monomaster line collector can help you do this.

8- Avoid fishing too fine (taking into account the coveted species).

The risk of breakage will be greater and you risk leaving your steel in the fish's mouth...

9- Avoid carrying the fish by the line.

The risk is not to the jaw - although the jaw should not be in excellent condition at the time - but to the vertebrae and blood vessels of the fish. A fish is definitely not designed to support its weight suspended out of the water.

10- Leave the fish in the water as much as possible.

If you want to take a picture, do it as soon as possible and please handle the fish correctly. Each species of fish has its own optimal position, we invite you to consult an article that will help you understand how to handle a fish properly.
