How to dress for autumn fishing?

Autumn fishing in reservoirs and second-class rivers is quite an adventure! When autumn arrives, with all its gloomy weather, you have to be ready to face the elements. It's a constant challenge against the rain, the cold that grabs your toes and the wind that blows your line into the branches.

There's nothing worse than coming home prematurely because the cold has frozen you to the bone, or because you're soaking wet. So, in practical terms, knowing what to wear for autumn fishing is essential. So, let's talk about the gear that will enable us to brave the elements without losing our smile: let's focus on what keeps us dry and warm.

The essentials:

When it comes to outdoor activities at this time of year, you need to be able to protect yourself from the elements while managing perspiration. The best way to meet these needs is to superimpose 3 layers: a first breathable layer to wick away perspiration, a second insulating layer to provide warmth, and a third waterproof and windproof layer to protect against the elements.

A breathable first layer to wick away perspiration

For both upper and lower body, skip cotton, which retains moisture like a sponge. Instead, opt for technical materials like merino wool.

A second insulating layer for added warmth

Upants and technical microfleece top are ideal. They have the ability to trap air between the fibers. This is what gives them their insulating power. The more air they trap, the more body heat they retain.

A waterproof and windproof third layer against the elements

A waterproof jacket: our Expert Pro Sonic II parka jacket parka jacket is the perfect ally against the elements. Completely waterproof and super-breathable, it's long enough to protect you in any position, whether you're standing at the water's edge or sitting in a rowboat.

A pair of waders: durable, waterproof, with matching shoes, they're like a suit of armor, a real barrier between icy waters and our legs. The ideal model for this season is the Expert II 5-layer breathable waders.

Plus points :

For extreme temperatures, our thermal inflatable vest is very practical. It regulates your temperature thanks to an internal valve that blows air to keep you comfortable.

In conclusion, dressing for autumn fishing is a little technical at first glance. But it can be summed up as follows: to stay warm in difficult conditions, you need to stay as dry as possible. So be sure to adapt your gear to the temperature you're feeling. If you're too covered up to the point of sweating profusely, it will be counterproductive. If you're soaked with perspiration that it's difficult to evacuate, you run the risk of getting cold. The idea, for example, is to take off a layer during an effort and put it back on when you stop. Adapting is the key!
