Which waders to choose?

You often ask us the question when choosing to buy field and fish waders. Before going back to the waders we offer at field and fish, we will review the different solutions for waders of all types of materials (pvc, materials, breathable, with boots, without boots) so that you can find what you are looking for at your retailer or on the internet.

Choosing a PVC waders: 

PVC is a plastic material. PVC waders are often synonymous with a first purchase because they are not very expensive, and therefore not very good in terms of the components used. They do not breathe, they are fragile, and often proposed with boots which are most of the time with slippery soles. The pvc waders are therefore used for a restricted use, for example launching a boat or fishing in the sea, because there are few obstacles.

Choose a Neoprene waders with boots or socks: 

The Neoprene used for wading is a foam injected between two meshes of fabric. The thicker it is, the warmer it will keep you. This material is not breathable and not very flexible, so don't use it if you walk.

The waders are often used for wading fishing in cold weather and cold water at the beginning of the season. The PVC and neoprene waders can also be offered in a waders version with boots

Choose breathable waders: 

Before going into the details of the different proposals (3, 4, or 5 layers) let's see how most breathable waders are constructed. 

First of all, it is a Gore Tex type membrane (imagine a membrane that has the characteristics of the skin). It is so thin that it must be laminated between the fabric above and below. The more layers you have, the more resistance to thorns you have, but on the other hand, the waders will be less breathable and less comfortable to move.

That's why many manufacturers mix several materials.

Similarly, there are a plethora of fabrics and membranes offering very different levels of waterproofing and breathability.

I often say that I can't afford to buy a low-end product but rather to choose the best value for money. With the explanations given in this article you will be able to choose by yourself the waders that will suit you the best. The choice of waders at Field and Fish will depend on the type of wading you will be doing. If you are looking for a soft, breathable waders to combine fishing comfort with long walks: choose the ultra sonic waders which are cut in a 4-layer fabric and with a very good resistance to abrasion.

For those who spend long hours in the water and are looking for crowded places far from the beaten track, choose the expert model thanks to the 5-layer fabric, which is less breathable. In terms of resistance over time, these two products will give you the same satisfaction. These two products are both transformable into pants by a clever system of straps.

Our sizes are primarily designed for French customers. If you don't find what you are looking for in our sizes, we can make you a custom made 4 layer waders. We are the only ones to offer this service in Europe.

What to wear under your waders? 

For maximum comfort under our waders, we recommend that you wear breathable and stretch materials. Depending on the season and the temperature of the water, you can opt for a fleece-type undergarment and in summer light stretch pants, especially not jeans. We will not talk about the competitors knowing that you will be able to appreciate the technical points which seem to us essential to propose a quality Waders which will last in time after having read what follows:

• A 3M protective strip for neoprene booties

The construction of the Waders is done according to our specifications. For information, each Waders after manufacture is plunged into a pool and filled with air to ensure a perfect seal.

On our 4 and 5 layer Waders :

-> There is no need for a central zip, because our system of straps makes it easy to put on the Waders and to roll them up as pants.

-> We find double sealing strips on the main seams and reinforcement crotch (5c).

-> Reinforced sock with 3M grey tape all around and armored neoprene under the foot.

-> A removable waterproof inner pocket.

-> A waterproof external pocket.

-> Both come with carpet and wide belt.

-> There are virtually no seams, and most of them are positioned at the back.

Choose this Waders if you fish in more complicated places, if you are often on your knees or on your buttocks and if you stay long hours in the water because it is more insulating than the sonic. The seams are waterproof. We also find the interior gray bands.

Choose this Waders if you are rather looking for a soft, breathable and light Waders, for a use of fisherman / walker, we do not have any more thread of sewing, the assembly being by ultra sound, thus reducing the thickness and the friction. The waterproofing is ensured by the interior gray bands.
